DOHA (IQNA) – The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) issued a fatwa on Tuesday, urging Muslim states to intervene to save the people of Gaza from Israeli genocide.

The fatwa committee of the IUMS released a statement to “proclaim the truth and explain the duty of the nation towards what is happening to our people in Gaza” as relentless Israeli air raids have claimed the lives of more than 8,000 people, mainly women and children, in the past 25 days.

“The ruling regimes and official armies have a legal obligation to urgently intervene and save Gaza from genocide and destruction,” reads the fatwa, adding, “They must support Palestine per their religious, political, legal and moral duty, as well as the international treaties and the strategic interests of the region and the nation.”

It also stressed that “military intervention and supply of military equipment and expertise are legally required” for both Palestinians inside occupied territories and for the four neighboring countries, starting with Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.
